I like the subtelty of this building; the molding decorations done in brick, and the motif with the waves (in the cornice and in the bolding at the bottom of the second image). The whole thing is just unpresumptuous. I’m not sure of the style, though.

There are 3 buildings on Central Park West with towers as you describe: San Remo, Eldorado, and Majestic.
You are probably describing the Majestic, since the Eldorado is in a location that is not good for filming (it is across from the reservoir). While the San Remo is more photogenic, the Majestic is right on the corner of 72nd Street at a park drive entrance; this is more conducive to filming. The Majestic is also an art deco building, whereas the San Remo is classical.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured whoever maintained this site would know what I was talking about and I was right. I think you are exactly right about the Majestic, although I found a picture with both buildings (Majestic and San Remo) and now I think I’ve seen both of them in the movies….although the Majestic seems to stick in my mind more so it must be the more popular of the two. Here is the URL for the photo I found:

Thanks again and have a nice day.

Whenever I see a movie with a scene filmed in Central Park in NY, the background always seems to have the same building. It looks like an art deco apartment building with a lower wider section that is maybe 10-15 stories high, and then has two towers on each side coming up from this base section another 10-15 stories. What is this building? It seems like it is in a bunch of movies that have a Central Park scene. I’m just curious and thought you might know. Thanks for your help.
